#029 October product updates
Big milestones deserve big celebrations, and this month marked two of them – my 50th trip around the sun and the official launch of Itsy into the world!
#028 Launching the Thing
Today, on my 50th birthday, I'm thrilled to announce the launch of Itsy – a labor of love three years in the making.

In our testing period, we have created over 10,000 carts. That's a lot of dream vacations!

#025 One Thousand Commits
Just wanted to share this. One thousand commits and we are getting ever closer to launch day!
#024 Tour of America
This weekend I did sort of a relaunch of Itsy. Major changes to inventory and pricing for Trips, and a new client!
#023 Balancing Act
Being a solo founder is no easy task. It requires a unique set of skills and the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities.
#022 Writing Documentation
As a solo founder, you want to make sure that your potential customers understand the value of your application and how it can help them achieve their goals.
#021 Itsy Automations
As a tiny system, Itsy was always supposed to be small, but able to connect to the outside world. Automations are the basis of those connections.
#020 New Website
A part of letting in more users is creating this brand new website. With help from some templating wizards, things are coming together nicely.
#019 Real Payments
Over these past few weeks the first client has been adding their orders to the Itsy system, sending out payment reminders and watching their customers completing payments in real time
#018 Back Home
Reykjavík > Copenhagen > Stockholm > Borlänge > Berlin > Prague > Pakoštane > Geneva > Lyon > Madrid > Tenerife > London > Edinburgh > Reykjavík. Three months. Twelve places. That was my summer. What a fantastic journey!
#017 Big Milestone
Sometime in the beginning of June things were not progressing at the pace I wanted and I decided to simplify things quite a bit and follow the KISS mantra with all my heart, Keep It Simple, Stupid. That had quite the effect.
#016 Business End
There were early signs that a new-ish travel agency that wanted to go the distance with me, a discussion that sort of went away when the millionth wave of Covid hit us. But here are still opportunities out there
#015 Starting Over?
Well, not quite starting over ... but there is some truth in this update. In the beginning I was using Itsy as a means of learning new things, working on code that I had not worked on before and getting to know new databases, platforms and technologies.
#014 Slowing Down
It's summer. Vacation time. And things have been happening. So, sadly I need to slow down. Just for my own sanity and stopping the guilt of not be working on the most exciting project I have ever taken on.
#013 Backend Bonanza
Vacation you say? Well, not quite exactly ... sometimes life gets in the way and so it did in my case. I was supposed bo in the northern part of Iceland right now, chilling the the Sea Baths of Húsavík, but a family issue held us back. So in town we stayed, and who benefitted? Well, Itsy of course!
#012 Slow & Steady
I got a spec sheet this week from a client that I will be working with in forming the direction of **Itsy**. Hopefully that will be a fruitful partnership, and I am looking forward to ticking things of on their MVP task-list over the summer.
#011 Workflow Engine
It seems like the summer has come and gone here in Iceland, it's windy and rainy outside, and if I didn't know better (based on all the graduations we are invited to over this weekend), I would think the fall is here again
#010 Reveal Time!
This week has been good, lots of commits and hours worked. The sun has been out here in Iceland and it's been hard to lock yourself in the office and do some work, but that's what you have to do as a sole founder these days ... :) But my god, I am not complaining
#009 Home Alone!
My wife finished her winter studies this week and is spending the weekend at a summer cabin with some friends, so it's all work and no play for me and our dog, Tinni
#008 I'm Vaccinated!
This last Thursday I was coming to the end of my run in Heiðmörk, I got a text saying that I could come by and get my first jab. So I did. All sweaty after a run on the trails. In my dirty running clothes!
#007 Slow Progress
This week has been good, but instead of focusing on the public booking widget as I planned last week, I got lost in the backoffice system, where you can now begin editing the **Trip**, which is the main product container in the system.
#006 No Setback!
When you have had the week I had last week, it can hit you pretty hard. But I was determined to not let it affect my MoJo, and on what was officially the first day of summer last Thursday here in Iceland, where everyone else was taking the day off an celebrating, I clocked 11 hours on Itsy, which was a fantastic feeling
#005 First Setback?
Not the week I wanted, but the week I lived. Not a single hour logged on Itsy and today marks a ten day stretch without any code commits to the Itsy repository.
#004 Volcano Visit
Last night I hiked to the erupting volcano on the Reykjanes peninsula. It's about an 45 minute drive from my home in the city of Reykjavik, and then we had to hike about an hour to get to the site. And what a sight it was
#003 Easter Week
It's easter week here in Iceland, and traditionally there are only three working days, we have Thursday and Friday off. And since me and my wife are parental support to a very sweet and fun 9 year old, this week has not been as productive as I wanted to.
#002 First Client?
Hello again everybody! Second week of updates, and already a potential first client! Ok, let's not get over excited, but I have a meeting on Monday with a potential client. It will be a perfect opportunity for me to try find out if the direction I want to take Itsy is the right one
#001 First Week
It has been about a week now since I went public with Itsy last Sunday with a post on LinkedIn. More of you have signed up for this email update than I anticipated, and for that I am very thankful.
